Sheriff Leon Lott discusses several early morning shootings that lead to deputies returning fire following a K9 track.
Today, June 4, 2026 just after midnight, deputies were dispatched to a shooting incident at the 200 block of Sagamare Road. Patrol deputies contacted the residents at that location, no individuals were injured but the house and vehicles had been struck multiple times by gun fire.
A short time later, approximately 1:50 a.m. deputies were dispatched to the 400 block of Spring Oak Drive, where they located another residence that was struck by gun fire. K9 Specialist Abdullah and his partner K9 Jet arrived on scene to assist. K9 Jet gets stimulus in the backyard at which time K9 Specialist Abdullah, K9 Specialist Ramirez and Master Deputy Carroll began to track with K9 Jet. The track continues for about 30 minutes.
The K9 track leads them to the backyard of a house at the 300 block of Legend Oaks at approximately 2:20 a.m. The deputies encounter several individuals outside and begin to identify themselves and give commands. The subjects immediately begin shooting at deputies with high powered rifles and pistols; an undetermined amount of times. Abdullah, Ramirez and Carroll return fire and try to get to cover. The suspects continue to shoot from multiple different directions and deputies continue to return fire until more deputies arrive.
“This shows the dangers our deputies face each and every day” Sheriff Lott said, “it is by the grace of God that I am not talking about one of our deputies getting killed.”
The shootings are believed to be connected; thus far one person has been detained and one person is deceased. We are asking anyone in the area of Fox Grove Circle, Royce Court, Summit Ridge or Bombing Ridge who may have ring cameras to please share them or anyone who may have witnessed something to please come forward.
K9 Specialist Zaid Abdullah has been with the department for 7 years and has been partners with K9 Jet for 2-years. K9 Specialist Samantha Ramirez has been with the department for 8 years and Master Deputy Nicolas Carroll has been with the department for 3 years.
