News Release: Water Recovery of Stolen Vehicle

On January 8, 2026, around 8:30pm, deputies responded to 219 Briarcliffe West, Elgin, in reference to a vehicle sinking in a pond. Upon arrival, deputies did observe a white truck fully submerged in the water and initiated a water recovery operation.

Fire, EMS, and RCSD’s Dive Team responded to the scene. When the vehicle was recovered from the water, there were no occupants inside. Deputies discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen from the Harbison Boulevard and Woodcross Drive area a little more than an hour prior to this call.

The vehicle theft is still under investigation.
