Professional Development
The Office of Professional Development is composed of four units: Recruitment and Retention, Wellness and Resiliency, Training, Public Affairs, Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), and Chaplains.
The Recruitment and Retention Unit's responsibilities are exactly what it's name implies - to recruit, hire, train and retain the best law enforcement and civilian professionals in the Country.

The Training Division is responsible for maintaining all departmental training records and training requirements. This include Basic and Advanced Law Enforcement Training, Specialized and continuing education training, Reserve Deputy Training and certification, and Community safety and awareness training.

Sheriff Leon Lott has created a model community policing agency emphasizing good relations with the media and the citizens of Richland County. Our Public Affairs Unit helps to maintain those relationships through traditional media as well as social media. To contact the Office of Public Affairs, call (803) 576-1405 or email pio@rcsd.net.
