Sheriff Leon Lott announces the arrest of Elijah Banks (18; DOB: 5/22/2008) in connection with a shooting incident that left one victim injured.
After obtaining video footage and based on witness statements, investigators were able to determine Banks as the shooter. Statements indicate the victim was incorrectly identified by the shooter as his intended target.
On June 9, 2026, Elijah Banks was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime. He was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where he received a $155,000 surety bond. He remains incarcerated.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a shooting on Decker Blvd.
On May 20, 2026, at approximately 2:50 a.m., deputies responded to the Decker Blvd./Plainfield Road area for a ShotSpotter alert. Upon arrival, deputies were advised by Dispatch that an individual had been shot at that location, left the scene and were now located in the I-277/Exit 20 area.
When deputies arrived at the victim’s location, they observed a male who had sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body. The male was transported to a local hospital by EMS for medical treatment.
