Sheriff Leon Lott announces the arrest of Cardesha Gilmore (35) after causing a disturbance at a Publix grocery store on Sunday afternoon.
On January 4, 2026, at approximately 1:05 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a call for a disturbance at the Publix grocery store located at 4611 Hardscrabble Rd. Deputies learned that the suspect was refusing to leave the store at the direction of store employees and had urinated openly in the front of the store.
When deputies arrived on scene and attempted to speak with the suspect, she fled from deputies on foot. Deputies chased after the suspect while instructing her to stop. She continued into traffic on Hardscrabble Rd. before complying with deputies to stop.
After speaking with Publix employees, it was also determined that the suspect was attempting to steal four packs of steaks from the location before being confronted by employees. Publix employees provided video surveillance of the attempted shoplifting and the suspect urinating on the floor of the store.
While deputies attempted to identify the suspect on scene, she attempted to flee from deputies again before being placed into a patrol car. While being placed in the patrol car, the suspect attempted to kick one of the deputies in the face.
The suspect was uncooperative with providing her identity to deputies on scene and was booked under the name, “Jane Doe.” While at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, the suspect was identified as Cardesha Gilmore.
Gilmore is charged with Indecent Exposure, Shoplifting under $2000, Public Disorderly Conduct, Pedestrian Unlawfully in the Roadway, and Assault While Resisting Arrest. She was given surety bonds for her offenses totaling $17,640. She is still currently detained at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
