During the incident, a Richland County School Resource Officer’s vehicle was struck multiple times by gunfire. Neither the deputy nor any students were injured.


This remains an isolated incident and is not believed to be connected to the school, its staff, or students.


The suspect sustained injuries during the incident; however, investigators are still working to determine how those injuries occurred.

News Release: Shooting on Horrell Hill Elementary Property


The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a shooting that occurred on school grounds at Horrell Hill Elementary around 1:15pm this afternoon.


One individual, an adult male, was struck by gunfire and has been transported to a local hospital for treatment. No other injuries have been reported.


This is believed to be an isolated incident. At this time, there is no further threat to public safety.


School lockdown has been lifted. Parents of students need to follow school administration directions regarding student pick up.


Grammar Road is closed to the public at this time. This is an ongoing investigation. Additional details will be providing when they are available.
