UPDATE: Two Arrested in McCary’s Restaurant and Grill Shooting

7/20/26

Sheriff Leon Lott announces the arrest of Saquan Davis (DOB: 7/18/1995) and Alterik Mays (5/6/2000) in connection with a shooting that left one injured.

On June 10, 2026, around 5:45 a.m., deputies responded to 851 Bush River Road for reports of shots fired with one individual sustaining a gunshot wound to the upper body. The Columbia Police Department was able to locate the victim and her vehicle and Richland County EMS was dispatched to transport her to a local hospital for medical treatment. Deputies found that a physical altercation had taken place in the parking lot, stemming from an argument inside, and the victim was shot.

Upon further investigation, RCSD investigators ascertained through video footage that Saquan Davis and Alterik Mays arrived at the restaurant together. Both suspects were seen on video with firearms, shooting at the victim.

Saquan Davis was arrested on warrants related to this shooting on July 20, 2026, after a traffic stop in the Rock Hill area. He will be transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center where he is charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime.

Alterik Mays was arrested by the Richland County Sheriff's Department on July 8, 2026, following a traffic stop. He was taken into custody at that time on an Attempted Murder warrant related to this shooting. After being released on a $150,000 surety bond, Mays was arrested again on July 16, 2026, following the execution of a search warrant connected to the shooting investigation.

Mays is charged with Attempted Murder, Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and additional charges related to narcotics and a firearm found inside the residence where he was staying. He also faces charges under Sheriff Leon Lott's Parent Accountability Initiative after investigators found juveniles had access to the unsecured firearm and narcotics. Mays had recently been released from the South Carolina Department of Corrections after serving time on a 2024 Attempted Murder conviction.

Saquan Davis is awaiting a bond hearing. His booking photo is not available at this time. Alterik Mays bond related to the charges from the search warrant were set as a $75,000 surety bond.
