News Release: Shooting on Rushmore Road

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a shooting that occurred at the 1400 block of Rushmore Road in Columbia.
On May 1, 2026, around 3:30 pm, deputies responded to the 1400 block of Rushmore Road in reference to a shooting that just occurred. Once on scene, deputies located one adult male with gunshot wounds to the upper and lower body and began rendering aid. EMS transported the subject to a local hospital in stable condition.
Deputies were able to quickly determine a vehicle was involved in the shooting and had fled the location. Deputies located the vehicle in the area of Broad River Road and Regency Park Drive. A second adult male with multiple gunshot wounds was located in the vehicle. EMS transported the second subject to a local hospital in critical condition.
At this time, investigators have not definitively determined which of the subjects is the victim or suspect. This is an isolated incident and an ongoing investigation.
