News Release: Safe Gun Storage Giveaway Success

Sheriff Leon Lott announces the success of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department’s gun storage giveaway, held in partnership with Prisma.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department and Prisma hosted two events this week, providing free gun lock boxes and trigger locks to members of the community. Across both events, 279 attendees received 373 trigger locks and 325 gun lock boxes, for a total of 698 firearm safety devices distributed at no cost.

The giveaway provided community members with the resources needed to safely secure their firearms and help prevent them from falling into the wrong hands.

“If you own a gun, you have a responsibility to secure it. It’s that simple,” says Sheriff Leon Lott. “These events were a success because people in our community stepped up and took that responsibility seriously. Every lock and lock box we handed out is one more firearm that can be kept out of the wrong hands. That makes our community safer.”

The Sheriff’s Department will continue working with community partners to provide resources and education that promote safe and responsible gun ownership throughout Richland County.
