News Release: RCSD Assisting Other Agencies in Suspect Apprehension

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department responded, at the request of SLED, to the area of Harbison and I-26 in reference to a wanted fugitive out of Anderson County believed to be travelling through the area.

Law enforcement located the suspect and initiated a vehicle stop at I-26 and 378 (Sunset Blvd). The suspect failed to stop, initiating a short vehicle pursuit into downtown Columbia. The pursuit ended at Blossom and Assembly St., where the suspect fled from the vehicle and ran into the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness building.

After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was apprehended by both SLED and RCSD inside of the building. At this time, there is no threat to the public. No injuries have been reported.
