News Release: Pursuit Ending on I77

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department announces the arrest of Cortez Jones (26) and Lorenzo Chandler (35).
On March 9, 2026, at approximately 1:05 p.m., deputies initiated a traffic stop in the area of Two Notch Rd. and Roof St. on a vehicle for reckless driving. The driver of the vehicle did not stop and a pursuit began. The pursuit lasted for approximately 15 minutes, and came to an end when the driver collided with other vehicles making his vehicle inoperable on I77 near Ft. Jackson. Both the driver and passenger of the vehicle attempted to flee on foot and were apprehended by deputies.
Both Jones and Chandler were placed under arrest. Jones was identified as the driver of the vehicle, and he was charged with Reckless Driving, Misuse of Tag on Vehicle, Driving Under Suspension, and Failure to Stop for Blue Light and Siren. Chandler was identified as the passenger of the vehicle, and he was charged with Pedestrians Prohibited on Freeways. Jones and Chandler were transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. Chandler was released on a PR bond, and Jones was released on a $10,000 SB.
