Sheriff Leon Lott presents Amanda Greenlaw with a Certificate of Appreciation for saving an elderly woman from being scammed.
On February 11, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a report regarding a scam. Deputies learned on scene that the victim received a call from someone representing themselves as a lawyer for her son. The individual stated that the victim’s son was involved in a traffic collision, and she was provided with a fake case number for the incident. The victim was told she needed to pay $5000 in bond money for her son. She was instructed to go to the Food Lion located at 5118 Fairfield Rd. and deposit the money into the “green machine” while staying on the phone with the individual.
The victim began to follow instructions from the individual on the phone when the Assistant Customer Service Manager of Food Lion, Amanda Greenlaw, noticed what was happening. Amanda stopped the victim while attempting to make the deposit and encouraged her to call law enforcement. This act prevented the victim from losing thousands of dollars to a scammer taking advantage of the victim.
Amanda Greenlaw is presented with the Certificate of Appreciation for going above and beyond in her community, and protecting a vulnerable person in a time of need.
