News Release: Arrest Made in Weekend Homicide

Sheriff Leon Lott announces the arrest of Alphonzo Ray (33; DOB: 03/13/93) after a homicide that occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 2nd.
On August 2, 2026, at approximately 5:00 a.m., RCSD deputies were dispatched to a shooting on the 6600 block of Shakespeare Rd with a ShotSpotter alert. When deputies arrived on scene, a male victim was found with a gunshot wound to the lower body. EMS responded and transported him to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
RCSD investigators and the Crime Scene Unit was called to the scene. During the investigation, it was revealed that Ray and the victim were known to each other, and were engaged in a conversation on Shakespeare Rd. It further revealed that an argument ensued before Ray shot the victim striking him in the lower body.
On August 2, 2026, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Ray was located and placed under arrest by RCSD’s Fugitive Task Force and Special Response Team without incident. He was charged with Murder and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime, and transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center where he is awaiting a bond hearing.
