Sheriff Leon Lott announces the arrest of Justin Young (DOB: 12/30/1988, 37) in connection with a shooting on Palmland Drive.
Investigators identified Young as the shooter and continue to investigate what led to the incident.
On July 10, 2026, Justin Young was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime. He was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where he was denied bond. He remains incarcerated.

News Release: Shooting on Palmland Drive

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a shooting on Palmland Drive.
On May 24, 2026, at approximately 8:00 p.m., deputies responded to Harlem Street for a person who had been shot on Palmland Drive. Dispatch advised that the caller, a third party, was waiting on Harlem Street and would direct deputies to the victim’s location.
Deputies verified the shooting occurred on Palmland Drive and the victim relocated to Harlem Street. The victim, an adult male, suffered a gunshot wound to the upper body and one to the lower body. He was transported to a local hospital by EMS for medical treatment.
