School Resource Officer Programs


Once in their assigned school, the SRO's function is to serve as a positive role model for the students. This is accomplished through daily interaction with the students. The SRO teach courses on topics such as Law Related Education, D.A.R.E., G.R.E.A.T., conflict resolution, internet safety, peer pressure, Crisis Management for Schools, and many more classes. We have placed quick links in the right column of some of the lessons we teach in our schools and important websites.

While much of the program's efforts are focused on crime prevention, we give equal deference to crisis planning and management.  We recognize that an emergency can occur within the school or community at any time.  Our SRO's receive proactive hands-on training that teaches them to respond efficiently and effectively to such emergencies.  Our Department serves as a grant partner with each of our local school districts to constantly upgrade crisis plans and integrate our crisis response efforts.  We routinely conduct exercises and training in the schools so that all aspects of the school community understanding the critical need for comprehensive crisis planning. for more information on responding to schools in crisis, click here.

The S.R.O. uses various tools to help children look at law enforcement officer's as a friend and helps teach various lessons to them. These tools and friends attend community events around Richland County. Come visit our friends and tools that Sheriff Lott has hired.
