It is important to have an up-to-date fire escape plan - designate two ways out of each room if possible.

Make sure each sleeping area has a working smoke detector.

Close all bedroom doors while asleep.

Have a flashlight at each bedside to light the way in an escape.

Designate an area outside the home where all family members will meet immediately after leaving the home during a fire.

Make sure all persons in your home are familiar with your fire escape plan, especially the children.

A "fire drill" should be run periodically.

IN CASE OF FIRE

Place the back of your hand on a door before opening it - if the door feels hot,
do not open it and go to the alternate escape route.

Smoke rises; crawl to safety, keep your head low where the air is cleaner and cleared.
