Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott partners with Richland County Family Court and offered an opportunity for a "Responsibility Day" Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott partners with Richland County Family Court to provide individuals with a positive opportunity for a RESPONSIBILITY DAY! Responsibility Day was conducted September 13th and 14th at 1701 Main Street, Richland County Courthouse in Columbia, SC. Over the past two-days “Responsibility Day” brought in 98 people wanted for non-support – this initiative helped to clear 128 cases with a total of $1,460,758.00 owed in arrears. Sheriff Leon Lott stated that the real winners with this program are the children who will be able to receive the financial support owed to them. “Responsibility Day” is an effort to clear any outstanding child support issues. In addition, it gives individuals a chance to walk in and immediately appear before a judge, adjudicate their warrants and begin a fresh start. Sheriff Leon Lott stated that “Responsibility Day” affords you the opportunity to accept responsibility for your actions and financial obligations. If you were one of the individuals who did not take advantage of this opportunity, keep looking over your shoulder because the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Fugitive Task Force will be looking for you! Sheriff Leon Lott stated that offering “Responsibility Day” is a way to take a step towards a new beginning -- it allows you to take accountability and get a second chance in return. Sometimes jail isn’t the only answer. This is an annual program which will be conducted again next year, dates and times to be announced. Having the system work with you and not against you is about “building unity in the community!”
