Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott stated that Corey Jenkins was sentenced on September 22, 2009 in connection with the tragic shooting of a thirteen year old boy on March 21, 2008. On March 21 the victim and his father were driving to visit a friend of the victim’s father, at an apartment on Horseshoe Drive. As they arrived, gunfire erupted in front of the apartment building – causing the victim to flee on foot. Jenkins fired multiple rounds from an assault rifle and then got into a car fleeing the scene. Jenkins spotted the victim running down Horseshoe Drive and opened fire on the thirteen year-old hitting him several times. Jenkins was sentenced to twenty years in jail, suspended to nine years and five years probation. The victim, an innocent bystander who is hearing impaired, tragically lost his leg as a result of Jenkins actions.
