WWII Veteran makes generous donation

During an informal ceremony in their home today, Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Cook Jr. of Irmo presented Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott and Deputies Gabr and Council with two bullet proof vests.

Mr. Cook, a World War II Disabled Veteran, told the Sheriff that he was concerned about the deputies who put their lives on the line every day and night. During the presentation, Mr. Cook expressed emotion and worry stating that the deputies are heroes and that he wanted to give the deputies, their families and the Sheriff some sense of relief as they patrol our streets. Mr. Cook stated that it is a difficult world and he felt in his heart that providing the money to purchase the two vests was the right thing to do.

Sheriff Lott stated that he was very grateful to Mr. Cook for his generosity – that this donation is the result of the relationships the Deputies build every day working with our communities and citizens. The Sheriff stated that it was an honor to receive such a generous donation from true hero – from someone who sacrificed so much serving our Country in World War II and who has not stopped serving.
