Suspect Arrested in Child Abuse Case  update: charges against Gaddist amended

Update: 05/26/2011 Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced the arrest of Antwan Gaddist (DOB: 12/26/78) for Homicide by Child Abuse.   

Sheriff Lott states that at 1:35 PM on Sunday, May 22, 2011 the Richland County Sheriff’s Department responded to Providence Northeast Hospital to investigate a possible child abuse case.   

When the one year old baby arrived at the hospital she was not breathing. Hospital officials communicated to deputies that the baby suffered extensive bruises to her body and face to include head trauma.  

On Thursday, May 26, 2011 Richland County Coroner Gary Watts announced that Kaitlynn Hall died from injuries sustained from the assault.   

Gaddist is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.


Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced the arrest of Antwan Gaddist (DOB: 12/26/78) for Inflicting Great Bodily Injury upon a Child.  

At 7:00 AM on Sunday, May 22, 2011 the Richland County Sheriff’s Department responded to Providence Northeast Hospital to investigate a possible child abuse case.   

When the one year old victim arrived at the hospital she was not breathing. Hospital officials communicated to the deputy that the victim suffered extensive bruises to her body and face to include head trauma.  

The victim’s mother stated she was at work at the time of the incident and the victim was in the care of her boyfriend, Gaddist.

Sheriff Lott states that this is a horrible crime against a defenseless child and will not be tolerated on any level -- Gaddist turned himself in to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 and was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
