RCSD Drops NIXLE

SHERIFF CONTINUES to EXPAND SOCIAL MEDIA SITES – DROPS NIXLE.

Sheriff Lott began utilizing social media sites to better communicate with our citizens and personnel because technology enhances the way people communicate. Sheriff Lott continues to pursue FREE resources that provide excellent ways for the Department to help educate and create greater awareness of our citizens. One source in providing instant information to our citizens has been NIXLE. In opening a NIXLE account we were assured that there would be no expense to the Department or citizens to use or receive information. In April of this year NIXLE issued a bill to the Department stating that there would be a very high cost to all entities that utilize their service. After talking with NIXLE the cost is going to be prohibitive for us to continue to use it; and for that reason the Richland County Sheriff’s Department will continue to utilize Twitter, Facebook, YOUTube, our website and soon be using Myspace.

In this day and age it is imperative that citizens receive instantaneous information without there being a financial burden to the taxpayers. Therefore, the Department will continue to provide great options for our personnel and our citizens to be informed.  We will encourage everyone to join our RCSD FACEBOOK page, find us on TWITTER and YOUTUBE.com. As always you can search our website  www.rcsd.net  for helpful tips and departmental information. I want to make you aware of these social media sites; noting that these are just one step of my plan to utilize all forms of social media into effective communication tools both internally and externally.

To ensure we are communicating effectively, the Department has the capability to provide the community with messages on social media sites. We are focused on community policing and this is one way to continue to keep our citizens advised of the things that are happening in their community. I know this is an essential way to keep our citizens and personnel embedded in the activities of their Sheriff’s Department on a continual basis.
