SCCA Recognizes Investigator as Officer of the Year

During the annual South Carolina Correctional Association's luncheon today, at the South Carolina Department of Corrections Training Facility, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott joined public safety officers, families and friends to show appreciation for those who protect and serve.

Sheriff Lott presented Richland County Sheriff's Department Investigator Starr Greene with a certificate naming her the South Carolina Correctional Association's Richland County Officer of the Year.

"To win this award is a great honor. It's always nice to be honored among your peers," says Greene.

Assigned to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Fugitive Task Force, Investigator Greene has made 179 arrests, served 266 warrants and helped obtain countless tips about gang activity and sex offenders in Richland County.  In April 2010, Sheriff Lott created the position of liaison between the Richland County Sheriff's Department and the SC Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon.

"I was very excited because I felt that the two departments would work well together," says Greene. "It's a great opportunity to help reduce crime and catch offenders who have been getting away with committing crimes."

During the presentation, Sheriff Lott said that the recognition of Investigator Greene is appropriate because, as her first name is Starr, she is truly a star in the Department.
