Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced today the Graduation of Major Randy Scott of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Uniform Patrol Division from the Federal Bureau of Investigations, National Academy Program – Major Randy Scott becomes the first African American Deputy in Richland County history to graduate the prestigious program. Sheriff Lott stated that Major Randy Scott received his diploma during a graduation ceremony that was held today at 10:00 AM in Quantico Virginia. Sheriff Lott, a graduate himself of the FBI National Academy Program, stated that the internationally recognized training for leaders and executives will not only help Major Scott in his career but will help the Richland County Sheriff's Department continue to build a professional law enforcement agency. The rigorous and complex training, both physically and academically, will help Major Scott personally and professionally -- the Academy Program is designed to provide management and investigative training that Major Scott will be able to apply in his role overseeing the day to day operations of the Uniform Division, supervising over 400 personnel, at the Sheriff's Department. Sheriff Lott stated that he continues to strive to staff the Richland County Sheriff's Department with genders and cultures that reflect the community that we protect and serve - thereby, creating a sense of accessibility and trust. Major Scott is an example, to the community and to other officers, of what one can accomplish when high personal goals are set and one is committed to meeting and even exceeding those goals. Major Scott emulates what all law enforcement officers should strive to become -- professional, dedicated and innovative. Sheriff Lott concluded by saying that he is proud of Major Scott’s accomplishment and that he knows first hand what Major Scott experienced at the FBI National Academy -- that it will be invaluable to him and to Richland County.
