Suspect wanted for assaulting 79 year old woman - update

03/28/2008 Update:

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced today the arrest of Joseph “Jody” Dean Kyzer (DOB:  09/03/1965) by the Richland County Fugitive Task Force with the assistance of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.   Sheriff Lott stated that the arrest was made as a result of a tip received by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department on Kyzer’s location – all three agencies responded and arrest Kyzer at the McDonalds on Columbia Avenue.

03/07/08 Update on this incident:

  • Victim is still in the hospital with serious injuries however is expected to recover
  • Late last night Lexington County Deputies recovered the victim’s 1997 MERCURY at 1107 Harbor Drive near Lexington Medical Center – two men were interviewed in connection with the recovery of the vehicle but no charges were filed in connection with the vehicle or the assault from earlier in the day.
  • Attached is video surveillance footage from the incident at the Hess Station – the video shows the victim in the center of the gas station washing her windows and then the suspect jumping in her vehicle and pulling off, dragging the victim across the parking lot.
  • Anyone with information on the identity of the man responsible is asked to call crimestoppers at 888-559-tips.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced today the investigation into the assault and battery with intent to kill of a seventy-nine year old woman whose car was stolen, by force, from 1714 Broad River Road (Hess Gasoline Station) late this afternoon.

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that the victim was finishing fueling her vehicle and washing her windows when a 40-50 year-old white male jumped into her car, knocked the victim to the ground and fled the scene at a high rate of speed.    Sheriff Leon Lott stated that the suspect knocked the victim to the ground and nearly ran over her with her own car; sending the victim to the hospital with severe injuries to her body.     Sheriff Leon Lott stated that the suspect fled in the victim’s 1997 2 door Mercury Cougar Tan in color, with a SC Tag of “ELF 1”.   Sheriff Leon Lott stated that the suspect faces charges of assault and battery with intent to kill and grand larceny of an automobile and that anyone with information on the identity of the man responsible is asked to call crimestoppers at 888-559-tips.
