Two arrested in K-Mart incident

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced the arrest of Kimberly Moody (DOB: 10/06/88) for Unlawful Conduct towards a Child and the arrest of Cortney NaShawn Palmer (DOB: 09/20/90) for Shoplifting.

At 9:20 PM at 7325 Two Notch Road (K-Mart) on Thursday, June 9, 2011 the Richland County Sheriff’s Department responded to a shoplifting call.

When deputies arrived K-Mart security had detained Palmer for stealing the following items: two bottles of body spray, 1 bottle of body wash, 1 stick of deodorant, 1 pair of earrings, and a pack of tissue totaling $29.61.

Moody, Palmer, and a third female arrived at K-Mart around 9:00 PM. Moody stayed in the vehicle and while sitting in the car parked in the lot she noticed a scuffle going on inside the store related to the shoplifting arrest. Moody decided to leave the premises in a hurry; in doing so a 1 year old female child who was not secured in the vehicle fell out onto the pavement and was seriously injured as Moody sped off. The baby was transported to Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital and is in serious condition.

The investigation continues and Moody and Palmer have been transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
