Traffic Safety Checkpoints to be conducted

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced that the Sheriff’s Department and South Carolina Highway Patrol will be conducting a traffic safety checkpoint in the 9400 Block of Wilson Boulevard on June 9, 2011 around 10:00 PM. 

The Sheriff stated that the checkpoint is designed to change driver’s behavior’s and reduce traffic collisions and fatalities in our communities – making everyone be a defensive driver, to wear their seatbelts and to slow down. The Sheriff added that the traffic safety checkpoint is an effort to reduce speeding in the area and reduce crime – due to an increase in car break-ins and burglaries in the area.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced that the Sheriff’s Department will be conducting a traffic safety checkpoint in the area of Rauch-Meetze Road and Dutch Fork Road on June 11, 2011 between 7:00 PM and 11:00 PM. 

The Sheriff stated that the checkpoint is designed to change driver’s behavior’s and reduce traffic collisions and fatalities in our communities – making everyone be a defensive driver, to wear their seatbelts and to slow down. The Sheriff added that the traffic safety checkpoint is an effort to reduce speeding in the area and reduce impaired driving. Sheriff Lott added that driving under the influence will not be tolerated and citizens need to make arrangements to have a designated driver or call a taxi -- the risk to the community is not worth it and you could end up in jail.
