Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced that on Monday, July 25, 2011 just after 6:00 AM Richland County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an Armed Robbery call at 133 plumbers Road (Days Inn).

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that when deputies arrived at the scene they found the suspect unresponsive on the floor with a gunshot wound.

The victim stated that she entered the breakfast room to prepare breakfast and found the unknown suspect inside. The victim stated that the suspect held a knife to her throat and told her that this is a robbery; he attempted to tie her up in which the victim was able to retrieve a small revolver from her person and shot the suspect striking him in the upper body.

Sheriff Lott added that the suspect’s intent was to not only rob this business but also to commit a sexual assault upon the victim. Sheriff Lott stated that this was an unfortunate situation in which the victim feared for her life and defended herself. Sheriff Leon Lott continues to ask citizens to be aware of your surroundings, if you see or hear anything that may be out of place or suspicious in nature, it’s always best to use your better judgment and call law enforcement. Sheriff Leon Lott stated that the victim was transported to Palmetto Baptist Hospital as a precaution.
