RCSD seeks murder suspect - armed and dangerous- Update: Arrested

Update 07/21/2011: Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced the arrest of Wayne Lamar Mobley (DOB: 08/21/89) wanted for Murder.

On Thursday, July 21, 2011 the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Fugitive Task Force, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and Lexington County Sheriff’s Department arrested Mobley without incident.

Mobley was arrested at 2426 Augusta Highway, West Columbia (Delta Motel) at 11:00 AM. Sheriff Lott stated it was a collaborative effort of the three agencies working together to apprehend a dangerous and violent offender.

While out on bond Mobley added to his charges by committing the act of murder. On Monday just after 10:00 PM, April 11, 2011 at 1609 Winterwood Road Richland County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a shots fired call. Upon arrival deputies found Bobby Edwards Jr. who was laying on the bed with multiple gunshot wounds to the lower body. Witness stated that Edwards ran into the house complaining he had been shot and fell onto the bed. Sheriff Leon Lott stated that investigators were able to gather information from witnesses that lead them to Mobley.

Sheriff Lott thanks the citizens who got involved and assisted law enforcement by calling our Crimestoppers hotline to help get criminals like Mobley off the streets. Mobley has been transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.


Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott is requesting the community’s assistance in locating Wayne Lamar Mobley, also known as “Chicken Wing” (DOB: 08/21/89) wanted for Murder.

Mobley was bonded out of jail on September 10, 2010 for two counts of murder, two counts of armed robbery, and two counts of trafficking cocaine. While out on bond Mobley shot and killed Bobby Edwards.

At 10:20 PM Monday, April 11, 2011 at 1609 Winterwood Road Richland County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a shots fired call. Witness stated that Edwards ran into the house complaining he had been shot and fell onto the bed. Investigators were able to gather information from witnesses that lead them to Mobley.

Since April 25th, 2011, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Fugitive Task Force has followed countless leads and tips in an ongoing effort to locate Mobley. Mobley is considered armed and extremely dangerous -- this is why it is of the utmost importance that if you know where Mobley might be located or if you see him do not try to apprehend him, notify the Sheriff’s Department immediately.
