Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced the arrest of Ashley Vereen (DOB: 08/19/85) for Murder.

Just before 2:00 AM on Saturday, July 9, 2011 the Richland County Sheriff’s Department responded to a domestic dispute at 12 Kathleen Court, Columbia.

Upon arrival, deputies found the victim unresponsive behind the wheel of the vehicle at the intersection of Kathleen Court and Kathleen Drive; further investigation revealed that there was a verbal altercation between Vereen and the victim that turned physical at the residence. Vereen retrieved a kitchen knife and stabbed the victim in the upper body and left the room. Vereen returned moments later and stabbed the victim multiple times in the upper body again.

The victim left the residence and got into a pickup truck and began driving only to travel about 100 yards from the incident location due to the injuries suffered.

Vereen was arrested outside of the residence on Kathleen Court and has been transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
