Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced the arrest of Jerome White (DOB: 02-12-73) for attempted murder, kidnapping, and two counts of pointing and presenting.

White turned himself into the Richland County Sheriff’s Department headquarters on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 9:00 AM with his attorney. Upon arrival, White attempted to kill himself by drawing a weapon in the parking lot and firing two shots which both shots misfired. White was subdued by deputies and arrested without further incident.

Sheriff Lott states that just after midnight on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 Richland County Sheriff’s Department Deputies responded to a "shots fired" call at 214 Keystone Drive, Hopkins, SC. Upon arrival, contact was made with EMS who transported the victim to Palmetto Health Richland with a gunshot wound to the hand.

Witnesses observed the two parties in an altercation that became physical -- they observed White holding a weapon and pointing it at the victim. Once they saw the gun they ran from the door.

White has been transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
