Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announces the arrest of Rashad Xavier Murray (DOB: 07/16/93) wanted for attempted murder, and burglary.

Just after 11:00 AM Monday, January 9, 2012 Murray turned himself in at Richland County Sheriff’s Department headquarters.

At 1:45 PM on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 Richland County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a burglary in progress call. Upon arrival deputies observed a red Ford Explorer in the driveway and the front door to the residence open. Robert Gallman (DOB: 07/07/92), who was arrested a short time later (on Tuesday, January 3, 2012) ran out the back door of the home and into the wood line, and Murray ran to the Ford Explorer. Richland County Deputies ordered Murray out of the vehicle. Murray started up the SUV and floored the accelerator driving the vehicle directly at the deputy forcing the deputy to fire a shot at the vehicle and jump out of the way to avoid being hit.

Murray drove through 3 lawns on Newport Drive, in the process destroying several landscaped yards. Murray abandoned the vehicle on Gateway Drive.

Murray was arrested without incident and was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
