Additional Reward Offered in Unsolved Murder Case

Eichelberger Family and Crimestoppers Offer Additional Reward Money

Today, the family of Reverend Tryon Eichelberger, Columbia Police Chief Tandy Carter, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott, Alisa Mosley from Crimestoppers and Scott Shockley from Lamar Advertising held a press conference outside the home of Reverend Eichelberger (119 Isaac Street) to announce that the Eichelberger family is offering $4,000 along with Crimestoppers’ $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for the attack on Reverend Eichelberger that led to his death on July 31, 2009.

Chief Carter said “Columbia Investigators are working tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice and to hopefully bring some sort of closure to the Eichelberger family.” Chief Carter continued to say “I urge anyone with any new information and has not provided that information to Columbia Investigators to contact the Columbia Police or if you wish to remain anonymous contact Crimestoppers”.

During the attack Rev. Eichelberger was brutally beaten with an object which is similar to the tool pictured below. The tool has been identified as being a Kinedyne Model 10033, Flatbed Combination Winch Bar. The tool is unique and is generally used by persons working with flatbed trucks or rail cars to loosen and tighten chains. It measures about 39.5" in length and weighs about 6.5 lbs. Columbia Investigators believe that a key to solving this murder is the tool that was used to attack the victim.  Investigators are considering that the suspect may have been seen carrying the tool at some time before the incident. The tool has significant length, is chrome plated and may have been stolen from a truck or rail car nearby.

"There is someone out there in our community that holds the key to solving this crime. On behalf of the family, who needs closure, and to begin the healing process this person needs to come forward and make the call", said Sheriff Lott.
