Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced the arrest of Roosevelt Anthony Reaves (DOB: 02/16/1978) for criminal sexual conduct and first degree burglary. Sheriff Lott stated that on January 21, 2010 at approximately 2:45 AM Reaves forced entry into the victim’s home and once inside the home Reaves pulled the victim’s bed linen off the bed and forced the victim to have sexual intercourse with him. Before Reaves fled the residence on foot he stole the victim’s cell phone. T he victim was transported to Palmetto Health Richland where DNA evidence was obtained. The DNA evidence collected positively identified the Reaves as the assailant on February 4, 2010. Through the use of forensic technology and DNA testing investigators were able to identify and apprehend Reaves. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department has a nationally certified full service Forensic Laboratory which helps solve cases using science; giving the department the ability to solve cases that they may not have been solved without the Laboratory. Sheriff Lott established the Forensic Science Unit to afford victims quick and efficient service that provides them with some sense of closure.Reaves was arrested on February 11, 2010 in Atlanta, Georgia by the United States Marshall Service and is currently incarcerated in the Fulton County Detention Center awaiting extradition to Richland County.
