County Sheriff Leon Lott announced today that Charlene Green (DOB 9-17-70 of 2160 Congaree Road, Eastover) has been arrested and charged with homicide by Child Abuse in connection with the death of her 27 week old child.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott stated that on October 22, 2007 Green delivered the 27 week old female child on the front sidewalk of the Family Dollar Store 3032 Farrow Road as a result of Green's use of cocaine. Sheriff Lott stated that the baby's death was viewed as suspicious at the time of the incident and charges were not filed awaiting toxicology results. Sheriff Lott stated that upon receipt of the results of the toxicology report the Richland County Sheriff's Department signed a warrant for Homicide by Child Abuse. Sheriff Lott stated that the Fugitive Task Force from the Sheriff’s Department arrested Green around noon today at 1813 Wily Street and transported Green to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center where she awaits a bond hearing. Sheriff Lott stated that this case is particularly disturbing because the victim was a helpless child who will never have a chance to live the life of a healthy child, experience the love and nurturing of a parent who deeply cares about her, and ultimately grow up to be a productive member of the community.
