Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announces the arrest of John W. Madden (DOB: 04/30/64).

Madden was arrested just after 3:00 AM on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 1909 Marina Road (Irmo) for attempted murder. The Richland County Sheriff's Department responded to a hostage situation with shots fired just after midnight at the incident location. Upon arrival, the victim had been taken out of the house by a relative and family friend, and then transported to Palmetto Richland Hospital by EMS with a gunshot wound to the upper body. Sheriff Lott adds that the victim is doing ok and is expected to make a full recovery.

Madden had barricaded himself inside his residence and eventually surrendered to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Special Response Team without incident; Madden was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
