Several months ago the Richland County Sheriff’s Department acquired a Humvee through the Unites States government program titled “1033”. It’s a program that allows Law Enforcement to purchase vehicles that are released by the United States Military. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department has a unique partnership with the military which enables us to acquire equipment to better serve the citizens of the community.

Sheriff Lott commends his deputies for their hard work to transform this Humvee into a vehicle that will help assist our efforts within the community. Deputy Travis Roberts led the charge along with Deputy Chris Potter, Corporal Steven Reeves, Deputy Raul Ortiz, Deputy Marcus Kim, and Deputy Alan Derrick, they basically took the bull by the horn and made it happen. With their hard work and dedication the deputies were able to have it completed and ready to roll out for its debut at the Richland County Sheriff’s Department’s National Night Out Kickoff event (Saturday, July 30, 2011). All together more than 140 free hours were put into the assembly of the Humvee. Sheriff Lott stated, “It speaks volumes and makes everyone’s job easier when you have a group of professional men and women that are motivated and dedicated to their job -- with that being said, it’s just what we do at RCSD everyday”!

The vehicle will be utilized for events such as schools presentations, youth organizations, large scale parades, and more; It’s such a cool looking vehicle, it’s almost as if it has a large magnet attached, you can’t help but gravitate towards it to look at it and inside of it!

Sheriff Lott stated that this job is about serving the community in every capacity possible; the addition of this Humvee which will be present at community events -- will allows us to educate, connect, build relationships, and bond with the citizens of the County.
