Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced the arrest of Marlon O. Williams (DOB: 10/16/85) for Armed Robbery.

Sheriff Leon Lott states that at 11:45 PM on Monday, August 1, 2011 the Richland County Sheriff’s Department responded to 1749 Sunset Drive, where the Columbia Police Department had Williams detained for armed robbery.

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that Williams went to his former employer’s residence wearing a ski mask, gloves, and was pointing a gun at the victim. Williams demanded the money deposits from the business (Dollar General). The victim stated he didn’t have them -- that’s when Williams forced the victim into his car and told him to drive to the store. While in route the victim was able to flag down two Columbia Police Officers who were able to apprehend Williams. Sheriff Lott stated that this crime occurred in the county which Williams was then turned over to Richland County Deputies.

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that this is another example of how the City of Columbia and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department work hand in hand to reduce crime in our community. It’s truly a team effort and together we will achieve “Unity in the Community!”

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that Williams was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
