Suspects Arrested for Murder

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announces the arrests of Yosuani Duarte, also known as Cuba (DOB: 02/01/73) and John Nixon, also known as Chief (DOB: 12/24/73) both wanted for Murder.

At 5:45 PM Sunday, August 14, 2011 at 1909 Percival Road (Shell Gas Station), Richland County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a shots fired call. Upon arrival deputies found Yhonny Jimenez lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body- -Jimenez was able to relate the nickname “Cuba” to responding officers. Jimenez was transported to Palmetto Richland Hospital where the he died as a result of his wounds.

Richland County Sheriff’s Department investigators were able to gather information pertaining to Duarte (AKA Cuba) from mutual acquaintances. Duarte was arrested at his home 7:30 PM Monday, August 15, 2011 at 1731 Overhill Road, Columbia. Upon further investigation Nixon (AKA Chief) was also implicated in the murder of Jimenez. Nixon was arrested at 5:10 PM Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 2212 E. Boundary Road, Lot 15, Columbia – both were arrested without incident. Sheriff Lott stated that we believe this murder is the result of some pre-existing conflicts among the parties involved.

The information provided to our investigators was the result of our Hispanic deputies who are able to translate vital information and assist in solving crimes in the Hispanic community.

Yosuani and Nixon have been transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
