Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott was selected to travel with five other law enforcement experts and participate in a week of meetings and panel discussions in Germany; consulting Germany law enforcement on ethics, training, cooperation and approaches to leadership and effective law enforcement techniques. Sheriff Leon Lott, Professor Jim Alexander from the University of Texas, Major Robert Ray US Army, Professor Doctor Bridgette Steineider of the University of Oklahoma, Law Enforcement Consultant Spears Westbrook and Chief of Police Todd Wuestewald of the Broken Arrow Police Department were selected to meet with several law enforcement agencies (including the German Minister of the Interior, German State Police Officials, the European Police Academy and the German University Police) to discuss police leadership, ethics in law enforcement, training and collaborative policing. German law enforcement offices paid the expenses for the experts to travel to Germany. “Anytime that we have an opportunity to share ideas and learn new techniques that can improve the quality of life for our citizens, we must do so”’ said Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott. “The Citizens of Richland County and employees of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department should be proud that we were selected to participate in improving law enforcement in Germany and the sharing of information will be brought back to South Carolina and help us improve the services we provide – I am proud to be the Sheriff of Richland County and to represent everyone, on this panel.”
