Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced today an investigation by the Richland County Sheriff's Department and Columbia Police Department that resulted in the arrest of Darvin Cannon (DOB 10-14-82) and Darren Archie (DOB 5-20-87) in connection with a string of burglaries spanning the last six months and involving homes in Richland County and City of Columbia. Sheriff Lott stated that the investigation revealed that Cannon was responsible for 50 burglaries within the Columbia/Richland County area -- Cannon would sit in the parking lot and watch residents leave their homes (mostly apartments and duplexes) and once the residents were safely out of the area he would then pry open a back door and steal various electronics and jewelry. Investigators began compiling forensic evidence and leads that provided investigators with enough information to apprehend Cannon with a vehicle full of stolen goods on Friday March 28, 2008. Cannon’s accomplice on several burglaries, Archie, was also arrested on March 28 and investigators have learned that Archie was the look-out on numerous incidents. Interviews with Cannon resulted in his admitting to over fifty burglaries. Sheriff Lott added that investigators are working on determining where the stolen goods were being delivered in an effort to recover a large portion of the stolen goods and to determine who may be involved in these crimes. A nyone with information on the location of any stolen items is asked to call crimestoppers at 888-559-tips (8477) – crimestoppers offers a cash reward for information leading to the recovery of stolen goods or anyone involved in a crime. Cannon and Archie are currently being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on charges including Burglary 1st and Grand Larceny - more charges are pending.
