Sheriff Leon Lott announced today the Richland County Sheriff’s Department is the proud recipient of several prestigious awards presented by the South Carolina Association of School Resource Officers and the South Carolina D.A.R.E. Association.
Each year School Resource Officers (SROs) from across the State attend the South Carolina Association for School Resource Officers (SCASRO) training conference in an effort to improve the programs and services that our SROs provide our children. SCASRO was developed in 1996 and is an organization that is now recognized nationally for its efforts to improve the safety and security of our schools. There are 625 members of SCASRO. Upon completion of the SCASRO conference, an awards banquet is held to recognize those individuals and programs that went above and beyond the call of duty for our young people. Sheriff Lott stated that he is proud of all 53 of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department’s SROs for their dedication and professionalism – that their continued commitment to our schools is providing safe havens for learning and the growth of the future leaders of tomorrow. The Department is committed to continued partnerships with all of the school districts in providing better learning environments and in educating our children. Sheriff Leon Lott stated that the following awards were presented at the awards banquet held on March 27, 2008:
