The
Richland County Sheriff's Department's Property Crimes Unit has over 20
investigators who work diligently to prevent and solve various crimes such
as burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, auto breaking, embezzlement,
and forgery, in addition to numerous other offenses as diverse as
communicating threats, animal cruelty, and bigamy. In all areas of
criminal investigations (including violent and non-violent crimes), the
aggregate experience of the MPC Unit investigators totals into decades.
This unit also investigates complaints of Credit Card Theft and Fraud,
Internet Fraud, and Identity Theft; victims from as far away as halfway
around the world have reported incidents of Internet Fraud to RCSD and in
many situations where the perpetrators lived in Richland County,
investigators have prosecuted the criminals and recovered victims' money
or property. Victims living outside Richland County are welcome to contact
RCSD through this website to report any fraud or other crimes which may
have a connection within our jurisdiction.
Property Crimes investigators also spot and track crime trends, develop
strategies to reduce or prevent criminal activities, and assist uniform
deputies investigating crimes punishable in SC Summary Courts. |
