Polygraph Unit

The Polygraph Unit is a section of the Criminal Investigation Division that conducts polygraph examinations and interviews, as needed by The Richland County Sheriff’s Department. It consists of a three-member team of highly trained polygraph examiners that utilize state of the art, computerized polygraph equipment.

The mission of the Polygraph Unit is to perform professional, impartial examinations and interviews, during criminal investigations, internal cases, and pre-employment screenings.

Polygraph examinations are generally utilized in criminal investigations to assist in eliminating or implicating suspects and the verifying of witness and suspect statements.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department does not perform polygraph examinations for non-law enforcement or private purposes.
