In January 7, 1997, the Richland County Sheriff's Department began a drastic change in leadership and standard operating procedures. Sheriff Leon Lott laid a new course for the department that centered around 100% community oriented policing. With the implementation of Community Policing as the focus for the department, Sheriff Lott created the Community Services Division to address and target specific issues that relate to the multiple issues and diversity of the different communities within Richland County. Our schools, neighborhoods, business community, media, and senior citizens are examples of different needs that exist and that the Richland County Sheriff's Department Community Services Division was created to collaborate with to reduce crime in Richland County. The Community Services Division contains highly skilled and specifically trained officers that address the diverse needs that arise in our communities. These officers are a direct face-to-face contact to communities and are responsible for being liaisons for improving the quality of life in Richland County by implementing proactive problem solving strategies and initiatives. The Community Services links on the left will provide you with information and the services that we can provide. Our hope is that you will become involved with the Richland County Sheriff's Department in one or many of these programs and take advantage of all resources and free crime prevention training that we offer. At your request we will send one of our experienced Crime Prevention Education officers to your Community, Church or Civic Organization to share information on the topic of your choice (click here for topic list). To request a seminar please email your request to sheriff@rcsd.net. Please include the time, place and date that you wish to have the seminar. Also include your name and the telephone number where you can be reached. Any community resident or local business that would like to be a part of the Richland County Sheriff's Department email tree can now do so by completing the form below and mailing or faxing it to the address/fax number listed on the form. This form is designed to provide the Community Services Division as well as the entire Sheriff’s Department with the proper contact information to keep individuals and businesses informed and involved with events and/or incidents that may affect their community. The submission of this information is totally voluntary and the information given will be highly protected within the department. Community groups, organizations, associations, businesses, and individual citizens are encouraged to participate. Information will be distributed by email or telephone about major cases, and crime trends in their respective areas. We will also be informing the community about important issues or cases that have been solved. This will reduce the fear of crime in the community. This action compliments the department’s mission statement by reducing the fear of crime. One way that “reducing the fear of crime” will be accomplished is by keeping the Richland County Sheriff's Department community educated and informed. Community Information Email Update Form
