Deputy Raul Ortiz is originally from Puerto Rico. He served as a member of the Civil Defense and was a part of helping during several Hurricane hits on the island. Deputy Ortiz moved to South Carolina and started at the Sheriff’s Department in June 2002, where he worked as a Court House Deputy and prisoner transport.  He was assigned to Region 6 in 2004 and became a part of CAT in July of 2006. Deputy Ortiz is one of the main Spanish interpreters for the department and works closely with the Spanish community.

Deputy L. Adams- began his career with the Department of Corrections. He later transferred to the SC Highway Patrol where he worked as a trooper for 6 1/2 years. He has been with the department since 2004. He was formerly assigned to the Traffic Unit and joined the C.A.T. in 2005.

Deputy Albert Frederick - has been with RCSD since Oct 2001. Originally from Philadelphia, PA., he is a retired Marine with 26 years of active service. Deputy Frederick has served as the Community Liaison Officer in Region 3 and a road deputy in Region 4. Deputy Frederick is currently attending South University with hopes of attaining a BA degree in Information Technology.

Deputy Steven Tapler is a graduate from the University of South Carolina with a B.S. in Criminal Justice.  He is now completing his Graduate Studies in Criminology at the University of South Carolina.  Deputy Tapler joined the Sheriff’s Department in 2006 and was selected on the C.A.T. team in October of 2007.

Senior Deputy Ronnie Arnold began his law enforcement career in 2001, and joined Richland County Sheriff’s Department in 2003.  He worked in Region 6, where he received Deputy of the Quarter, before joining the Drug Suppression Team in 2006.  In 2007 he received Special Operations Deputy of the year.  Sr Deputy Arnold joined the Community Action Team in Auguest of 2008.  He served in the US Navy during Desert Shield and Desert Storm aboard the USS Pensacola (LSD-38).  As a member of C.A.T. he enjoys working with the communities and helping to find a solution to their concerns.
